August 20th: Shimokitazawa Ichibangai Awa Odori

Changing suddenly from the heatwave that had lasted up to the previous night, the cooler air was refreshing and gentle for both odoru aho and miru aho alike.

Having arrived back in Tokyo just a few days earlier after experiencing a full schedule of Awa Odori at its home in Tokushima, my personal motivation and aspirations for this festival were very high.

At first, that is. Some of the road portions were very long and it was hard work. What really helped me through though was the many smiling faces, cheers of "wow!" and clapping hands along the roadside.

During the final formation dance portion, we really made a strong connection with the audience. As everybody cheerfully danced with us, for a short moment I got to re-experience here in Tokyo the same kind of excitement that I'd felt in Tokushima.

Thank you all so much!
