September 18th: Green Port EBISU (Volunteer)

As September 18th is the day before Respect for the Aged Day, the Green Port EBISU facility organized a variety of related events, among which was a performance by Tokyo Ebisuren.

A large number of people gathered to watch, and seeing all the happy and excited faces strongly motivated us towards giving an enjoyable performance.

At the start of the formation dance, our flute section played the "Sakura" melody, which resonated well with the spectators. We played "Sakura" again later while introducing the musical parts, and again, a number of people hummed along to it. I was very impressed with how familiar and personal the song was to everybody.

Finally, we did a freestyle dance as part of an Awa Odori workshop. Lots of people raised their arms and moved their feet on the spot in time to the music. For a short time, the hearts of everybody there moved as one, as we all enjoyed the Awa rhythm together.
